Community based outreach support is available for children young people with a parent or close relative in prison.
Key aims of our outreach services are to:-
- improve children's ability to deal with significant life changes and challenges
- improve children's self-esteem
- enable children to stay safe from bullying and discrimination
- enable children to enjoy leisure time and take part in social activities
- support the parent/carer in the community to provide a safe and stable home
Specialist workers offer direct one-to-one support, ranging from escorting children to visits, to enabling them to identify and express their own feelings and wishes. Group activities are also arranged for both children and their carers, reducing isolation and helping families to link to and support each other. Our workers can work with schools, and also help families to access other agencies for support with health, housing or other issues .
Referrals to the project are accepted from a variety of agencies, including children's agencies, schools, health/social services, and families themselves. These services are currently available to families living in Bedfordshire, Essex, Norfolk, Peterborough and Cambridgeshire, and London.
